Plucking nightmare means £4k eyebrow transplant

A Sevenoaks fashionista has paid £4,000 to have the Duchess of Cambridge’s eyebrows after overplucking left her in need of a transplant.

Pernille Brookman, 29, who used to live on Queen’s Drive, took the drastic decision after years of thinning her eyebrows left her having to draw on a new set every day.

As a teenager, Mrs Brookman believed the thinner her eyebrows were the better, but the trend has changed in recent years leading to her deciding to go under the knife.

“As I got older, thicker brows started to become fashionable and I realised that mine looked so thin that I should probably do something about it,” she said. “So I started drawing them in with an eyebrow pencil.

“But because I’m quite fair even a light coloured eyebrow pencil made my eyebrows look fake and you could clearly see that I was drawing them on.”

With the Duchess of Cambridge and model Cara Delevingne being influential leaders of the fuller eyebrow, Mrs Brookman knew it would be impossible for her to achieve the same look.

“It was quite embarrassing because every day I would have to draw the eyebrows on,” she added. “There was no way I would even leave the house without drawing them in.

“If I was on holiday, the first thing I’d do when I got out of the swimming pool was check they were still drawn on.

“And if they’d rubbed out I would grab the pencil and draw them back on – it was such a pain.”

After researching the options available to her, Mrs Brookman decided to have a Follicular Unit Extraction procedure at the Private Clinic of Harley Street.

The four-hour procedure was carried out by Dr Raghu Reddy and involved individual hairs from behind the ear and on the head, where they are plentiful, being transplanted to the brows.

In total 150 hairs were relocated into each brow while Mrs Brookman was under a local anaesthetic.

“After the procedure I had to wait a few months before the hairs started to grow,” Mrs Brookman said. “But now, for the first time in years, I have eyebrows of my own, which don’t need to be drawn in with makeup.

“It’s such a big change for me and will make going to the gym and going on holiday a lot easier.

“It really is one of the best things I’ve ever done and I’ve already recommended it to my friends who over plucked their brows when they were younger too”.

Dr Reddy added: “There is much greater awareness now of the procedure and the results that can be achieved.

“The eyebrow transplant provides a solution for patients who have over-plucked their eyebrows beyond repair, or to those who are looking for a fuller brow.”
