5 ways to treat Acne Scarring
ACNE TREATMENT
Almost everyone has at least one scar on their body; they are the body’s natural way of healing. Certain areas of the body are more at risk of scarring, such as the chest, back, ear lobe and the shoulders.
Acne scars are one of the most common problems that we get enquiries for at The Private Clinic. There are actually different types of acne scars;
- Ice Pick Scars – These are small deep holes in the surface of the skin that look like the skin has been punctured.
- Rolling Scars – These are caused by a band of scar tissue which forms under the skin and gives the surface of your skin a slightly bumpy and uneven texture.
- Boxcar Scars – These are rounded groves in the skin.
There are a variety of treatments that can help with these scars and depending on the severity of the scars you will have the option of trying out a number of different ways to help reduce scars and the formation of future acne also.
Microdermabrasion
A medical microdermabrasion is a great starting point for anyone looking to give their skin a new lease of life. Micro crystals are vacuumed over the surface of your skin to remove a layer of dead and damaged cells leaving your face feeling fresher and softer.
A microdermabrasion is a great treatment to have on a regular basis to keep your skin in good condition, although not the best at removing deep acne scars, it will definitely help with shallow scars and also help acne-prone skin too.
Microneedling
A dermaroller or dermpen treatment is great if you suffer from acne scars, hyper pigmentation or even burn scars. The treatment involves either a roller or pen with hundreds of micro-skin needles being passed across the skin causing small micro punctures. This process stimulates your own skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, resulting in smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.
For the best results, it is recommended that you book a course of 3-4 treatments 6-8 weeks apart.
Chemical Peels
There are two main types of chemical skin peels; a superficial peel for moderate acne scars and hyperpigmentation or a medium peel which is better suited to deeper acne scars and uneven skin tone.
The treatment itself is not as bad as it initially sounds; the chemicals in the peel are not damaging but instead help to remove dead cells on the surface of the skin. After treatment your skin will feel softer, look healthier and the appearance of acne scars is often reduced.
Four to six superficial peels are needed to treat mild acne scars. If you are having medium peels you may only need one or two.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most innovative ways to rejuvenate damaged skin and tackle skin concerns like acne scarring. We work with two main resurfacing treatments; Pixel laser and Pearl Laser.
The Pixel Laser treatment uses a high-energy beam to remove the epidermis and upper dermis layers of damaged skin. The Pearl Laser treatment is a single session laser method that targets damaged skin. There are actually 3 different varieties of the treatment Pearl Laser Resurfacing, Pearl Fractional Laser Resurfacing and Pearl Fusion. By having three different treatments it allows practitioners to create the most tailored treatment plan for your skin’s needs and achieve the best possible outcome.
Pixel laser results are permanent, but normally most noticeable after a course of treatments. Patients who undergo Pearl Resurfacing will normally see results after one session.
IPL Photorejuvenation
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a non-invasive skin treatment that will improve the overall colour and texture of your skin. The treatment involves a system of pulsed light and lasers penetrating the skin to improve tone and texture. The advanced technology of the treatment allows practitioners to customise treatments for different skin tones and conditions.
In order to achieve the best results we recommend a course of six treatments.
The results will last between 12 and 18 months, at which point you can come back to us for a top up treatment.
Whatever the extent of your scarring is, you are sure to find treatment here at The Private Clinic to suit you. We have a range of dermatologists and specialist practitioners to ensure that you are receiving the best treatment suited to your skin type.
