How to prepare for your liposuction procedure

Preparing for your liposuction operation at The Private Clinic London is simple and straightforward.

Our liposuction procedures are minimally invasive and usually conducted under local anaesthesia, so while there is not much you will need to do to prepare for your treatment, these easy steps will assist in guaranteeing that your liposuction procedure is performed safely and that your recovery is as smooth as possible.

Your Consultation

Before undergoing any form of surgery, you should have a consultation with your surgeon to discuss your goals. Our experienced Liposuction doctors and surgeons will assess your suitability for liposuction surgery and explain the different methods and techniques available including vaser liposuction, micro liposuction and vaser hi-def.

They will then determine a treatment plan that is most suitable to help you reach your aesthetic goals.

You will then meet with a patient coordinator who will be your point of contact should you wish to book your procedure.

Ahead of your Liposuction procedure, it is advised that you are at your ideal weight. Losing or gaining a significant amount of weight following your procedure will impact your results.

How to prepare for Liposuction Surgery

Once your surgery date is scheduled, you will have a pre-op assessment with one of our nurses who will ensure that you are medically fit to undergo liposuction surgery.

They will provide you with pre-operative recommendations which includes.

Adjusting your Medication

You should not take any aspirin-containing medication, anti-inflammatory drugs, natural products, herbal medicines, and/or vitamins in the week leading up to your procedure.

This is because they could increase bleeding.

Stop Smoking and Vaping

It is best to refrain from smoking or vaping for at least one week before your procedure.

Smoking can decrease blood flow which can affect wound healing and increase your risk of infection.

Avoiding Alcohol

Drinking alcohol can interfere with your heart rate. This can cause issues with healing following your liposuction procedure. It is best not to drink alcohol in the week leading up to your procedure and afterwards too.

Booking time off work

You should plan to take some time off work according to your surgeons’ recommendations. In most cases, patients can return to work within 1-2 weeks following their procedure.

Organising a Chaperone

Ensure that you have a chaperone to take you home following your procedure and to stay with you for 24 hours. It is important to have someone who can help you with medications and assist in your initial recovery.

Preparing your home

Liposuction is not going to leave you bed-bound, but it is always nice to prepare your home to help you rest and recover with ease. Other patients found having easy-to-prepare healthy meals, comfortable clothes, extra pillows, long charging cables, essential items within easy reach and assistance with childcare or pets helpful.

Hygiene & Hair Removal

You should shower before your procedure but avoid applying any moisturiser or topical treatments to the skin to lessen the risk of infection during and after your liposuction procedure.

If you want to shave the area being treated, it is best to do this at least 2 days before your procedure to allow for any minor skin irritations or abrasions to heal. Shaving on the day of surgery or the day before can leave your skin more vulnerable to infections.

Sun Protection

It is important to be mindful of sun exposure ahead of liposuction surgery. Excessive sun exposure or sunburning at this time can affect your surgery and recovery. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen to shield your skin from excessive UV rays.

Health

You should let us know if you experience any changes in your health within the week leading up to your liposuction surgery. Having a cough, fever or any other illness or skin infection can affect your surgery and it may be best to reschedule.
