Footballers and Hair Transplants
Friday, 10 June 2016 marked the start of the UEFA Euro 2016, a highlighting event for any footballers’ career with 23 teams playing 51 matches over a period of 31 days, it is a time when all attention is focused on what team is going to come out on top.
With all eyes on the game, it can be difficult for any footballer to go through any change in appearance unnoticed, this includes balding or the reverse of it some cases.
The unfortunate angle of how a football game is filmed means that quite often the most looked at area of a football player is the top of the head, so is this the reason why so many footballers are deciding to book in for hair transplant procedures?
Wayne Rooney Hair Transplant
The most well-known hair transplant story in the sporting world was of course Wayne Rooney announcing his hair transplant treatment in 2011, since then he has returned to Harley Street for a second treatment in 2013 and it has been reported that he is considering a third session after looking a bit sparse on top ahead of England’s first euro match against Russia. See photos here.
Rooney has admitted that the main reason for his decision to go through with the procedure was that he felt uncomfortable going bald at 25 and getting Bobby Charlton comparisons.
Dimitar Berbatov Hair Transplant
More recently Dimitar Berbatov, has been in the press with the claim that his hair transplant is possibly the best to date!
The former Manchester United striker stepped out once more on the pitch at the recent Soccer Aid match but onlookers were more focused on his sudden head of hair rather than his football skills. Even before he left the Premier League, the flowing black locks he once sported at Spurs and Manchester United were diminishing fast and fans were quick to take to Twitter to share their observations. Kris Boyd Hair Transplant
Another footballer to have a hair transplant is ex-Rangers player Kris Boyd who in 2015 aged 31, underwent FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) treatment and had a total of 1,762 grafts implanted. See photos here.
Kris has said:
“To be honest, I looked at James McFadden’s hair and I knew straight away I had to get one. Someone posted a picture of Faddy’s hair online and I thought god his hair was worse than mine. Once I saw the difference it has made to Faddy I thought – I’m for a bit of that myself.”
Cristiano Ronaldo Hair Transplant
Footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo recently revealed that he would be open to getting a hair transplant in the future if he felt it was required.
When I think it’s necessary, of course I’ll do it. One’s image is an essential tool for being successful. For me it’s fundamental.”
David Platt Hair Transplant
It is not just the lads on the pitch that are looking to replenish their Barnet’s. Former England football captain David Platt has undergone a hair transplant so he looks better during his appearances as a television pundit. Platt had around 2,500 grafts of hair transplanted from the back of his head to the front of his scalp although most interestingly the procedure itself was carried out by intelligent robotic software, the ARTAS system. “I’ve struggled with male pattern hair loss for many years, and eventually got to a point where I decided it was time to address it, I’d seen the results of other public figures’ transplants and I thought, why not? Being on television meant that my hair – or lack of it – was very visible.”
Antonio Conte Hair Transplant
Antonio Conte also underwent a hair transplant after he ended his playing career. Now a professional football manager managing the International Italian team, Conte travelled to Vancouver Canada to remedy his battle with baldness after two failed attempts to reverse the process in Italy. Conte can be seen sporting a full head of rather long hair at the UEFA Euro 2016 games. See photos here.
Rob Holding Hair Transplant
One of the most recent footballers to have a hair transplant has been Rob Holding. Rob in the past had always had a healthy looking hairline but recently he had lost a significant amount of hair which was a substantial amount of hair loss for someone in their mid-20s. Rob’s hair loss was caused by male pattern baldness and it was becoming noticeable at the end of the 2020/21 Premier League season. As his hair loss started to affect his confidence he decided to have a FUE Hair Transplant and by the following year he had a thick, full head of hair and new hairline. See photos here.
Of course, you do not need to be a footballer to qualify for hair restoration treatment. Here at The Private Clinic, we have a specialised team of Trichologists and Hair Transplant surgeons who will work with you to decide the best course of treatment for you.
Hair Restoration at The Private Clinic
The Private Clinic of Harley Street offers the latest and most advanced FUE Hair Transplant procedures available, including hair transplants to the face and eyebrows.
- Highly experienced Hair Transplant Surgeons who have decades of experience and who have carried out thousands of hair transplants.
- The Private Clinic prides itself on ensuring you have the best quality and most comprehensive care.
- FUE is a minimally invasive treatment (meaning there is no cutting of a strip), and carried out under local anaesthetic – many patients either watch TV, or even fall asleep during the procedure.
- You won’t require any stitches after your treatment. This means that the recovery time is also reduced when compared to the Strip surgery (FUT). Find out more about hair transplant recovery here.
- We use the finest instruments, resulting in as minimal trauma to your scalp as possible.
- Following treatment, there will be no linear scarring across the back of your head as seen with the strip method (FUT) – you’ll be free to wear your hair long or short.
- We choose the best follicular unit (a group of hairs); this ensures that only the strongest, healthiest grafts are used for your hair transplant procedure.
- Your results will look natural, with denser packing – the hair is implanted in the direction that matches your hair growth, and because we select healthy follicular units, the treated area will look densely filled.
- Our surgeons are the only surgeons in the UK offering the Unshaven Hair Transplant (U-FUE) (the long-hair hair transplant), to those who prefer not to shave beforehand. At your consultation, we will be able to advise you on whether an unshaven procedure is suitable for you.
- Scars resulting from injuries or previous surgeries can also be corrected. This could be a previous bad hair transplant or we can cover linear scars caused by FUT hair transplants.
- 24 hour patient helpline to ensure you are always in the best of hands.
- As many post-operative care and appointments with your Hair Transplant surgeon and nursing team as required.
- Comprehensive patient information, every step of the way.
- Outstanding clinic facilities.
- Our excellent reputation for patient safety and satisfaction, honest advice and outstanding care means your journey with The Private Clinic will be an exciting experience to a new hairline
