Our top treatment for treating adult acne

ACNE TREATMENT

Acne at any age can be a traumatic experience and often leave sufferers feeling like they lack in self-confidence. Although more common in teenagers, acne can appear in the mid-twenties or even later on in life and it is often difficult to treat no matter how many topical creams you put on or antibiotics you take.
Luckily for you, we have over 30 years of experience and a team of leading UK dermatologists who are able to help and create individual treatment plans for everyone who walks through our clinic doors.
Why does it happen?
Whether it’s teenage acne or adult acne – generally the cause is the same. We have small glands below the surface of our skin called sebaceous glands which produce oil called sebum. Sebum when produced correctly is responsible for keeping our skin smooth and supple – perfect! But things can go wrong and we end up producing too much sebum which builds up oil in the hair follicles of our skin creating an ideal place for a type of bacteria called Propionibacterium which causes acne to form.
Other causes of adult acne can include stress, changes in hormone levels, stopping birth control pills, pregnancy, menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome and even some medications like anti seizure drugs.
Although 80% of adult acne sufferers are female, this doesn’t mean that men are immune. Although men don’t have the same hormonal changes that women do, studies have shown that higher sebum production can be linked to genetics and men in their 20s and 30s are particularly susceptible to spots or cysts.

The N-Lite laser treatment is one of our most popular acne treatments as it targets the cause of the acne reducing the risk of new acne developing and also reduces the risk of acne scarring. It is a generally painless treatment although you may feel a slight tingling sensation. For most clients we recommend a course of three 30 minute sessions however depending on the extent of your acne – this may differ.
Results from the N-lite can start to be noticeable after the second session, but full changes may not be seen until 3 months after. After your course of treatments, you can expect results to last up to 10 months, in which time you may need to come back for maintenance treatments. The nature of adult acne means that things will change according to hormones, stressful events etc. This is something that we cannot control.

“After never suffering with acne in my life, last year I noticed spots appearing all over my face. I went in January to The Private Clinic and everyone was very welcoming. I had a consultation which was followed by creams and acne skin treatments. I didn’t think the spots would ever disappear but after the first treatment I could see an improvement and it just got better. I want to thank everyone at the clinic especially Lisa, who was always there when I needed her” – Lisa, London
