The Verdict
“For years I’ve covered up my legs because of the awful thread veins I have all over them. Depending on the severity of your veins, the clinic will either give you laser treatment or sclerotherapy. Mine were deemed pretty bad, so I had needle therapy.
The nurse filled her syringe with the solution, which irritates the lining the lining of the blood vessels, causing them to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. She targeted around 20 veins. Aside from one or two sharp pricks, the treatment was totally painless. However, look away if you don’t like needles.
Just over an hour later, little lumps started to appear with slightly open heads, similar to mosquito bites. I was also given thick, black surgical stockings to wear for a fortnight to help speed up the results, and told to take painkillers – within 20 minutes I definitely needed them! My legs felt like they were on fire and were extremely uncomfortable and painful all evening but, as advised, I slept in the stockings, took the tablets and thankfully woke up pain-free.
A week later, my legs were a little lumpy and quite sensitive, without any obvious results. But after my follow-up two weeks later, my veins were less visible. I’ve been told I will need between three and five treatments for them to disappear, but so far I’m impressed.
