How can I get rid of my unsightly varicose veins?
MR TAHIR HUSSAIN
Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Mr Tahir Hussain answered a common question regarding varicose veins for an article in The Daily Mail.
Q: I have developed two nasty-looking varicose veins on my legs. Can anything non-invasive get rid of them in time for summer?
I won’t lie; the body takes up to a year to eliminate treated varicose veins. But a procedure called VenaSeal is more convenient and less painful than others answered Mr Hussain.
What is VenaSeal?
VenaSeal is a minimally invasive surgical technique that essentially glues veins shut, provided they’re not very superficial, in which case the consultant will suggest an alternative treatment.
‘After a local anaesthetic, we make a small incision and insert a catheter into the vein,’ says vascular surgeon Mr Tahir Hussain.
‘It’s pushed towards the groin while an adhesive “glue” is dispersed at multiple points.’ This seals and ‘kills’ the vein. There can be up to two weeks of inflammation and discomfort afterwards, but most patients ‘positively skip out of the clinic’, says Hussain.
He says VenaSeal’s main advantages are that it requires only a single injection to insert the catheter.
You also don’t need to wear pressure stockings afterwards; you just need to keep the site dry.
Expect to pay from £2,000 at the nationwide The Private Clinic (theprivateclinic.co.uk).
