A sagging jowl is often the referred-to name of the loose skin that hangs along your lower jawline. Sagging jawlines are a sign of ageing and it is natural for sagging to occur in this area. Other factors that can contribute to the appearance of jowls include sun damage, genetics and lifestyle choices such as smoking.
Sagging jowls are when your skin loses its elasticity and the production of collagen is significantly decreased. It can make you lose definition in your face as well as making you look angry or upset on a permanent basis.
The appearance of jowls can be helped by using specialist anti-ageing products, living a healthy lifestyle and protecting your skin from sun damage but we also have a range of effective treatments to help reduce the appearance of sagging jowls.

Treatments Available
Ultherapy
Ultherapy is an FDA-approved non-surgical skin tightening ultrasound treatment that can be used to reduce the appearance of sagging jowls.
Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V) energy which stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin to reverse the visible signs of ageing. The treatment involves applying the Ultrasound applicator to the face where ultrasound imaging is used to determine the optimal placement of the treatment energy.
Ultherapy usually takes around 30 minutes to perform. There is no downtime, no incisions and no anaesthesia required. Results from Ultherapy can last over a year.
Ultherapy treatment for sagging jowls is available at our clinics in London Harley Street, Buckinghamshire, Birmingham, and Northampton.
Dermal Fillers
If your sagging jowls are mild then dermal fillers may be a suitable treatment to help reduce the appearance of them.
Dermal filler treatment involves injecting the area to be treated with hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in your body. The early signs of jowls will be able to be treated with dermal filler by adding volume into the front of the jowl along the jawline which will help to give a more rounded contour to the chin.
Dermal Filler treatment usually takes 30 minutes but this can vary depending on the amount of areas being treated. There is minimal downtime with any swelling and bruising going down after a couple of hours and the results of the treatment are seen instantly and last between 4 – 13 months.
Dermal Filler treatments for sagging jowls are available at our skin clinics in London Harley Street, Birmingham, Buckinghamshire, Northampton and Bournemouth.
Thread Lift
A thread lift is a great way to reduce the appearance of mild sagging jowls giving you a rejuvenated V-shape appearance to your face.
You will first need to have a consultation to ensure you are suitable for treatment which is best for those with the early stages of jowls. We offer a variety of thread lifts at The Private Clinic including; Silhouette Soft, APTOS and PDO Threads. All treatments offer great results and it will be at the aesthetic doctor or nurse’s discretion over which one is used.
During your procedure threads will be inserted into your face to help lift and tighten the lower face reducing the appearance of jowls. Over time the treatment also encourages your collagen production so when the threads are naturally absorbed by your body, you will still have collagen present in the area to help hold the lift.
A thread lift can take as little as 30 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic. The downtime is low with any pain, redness, bruising or swelling reducing over the next few days post-procedure. You will need to avoid certain activities such as dental procedures and facial massages for at least 2 weeks after your procedure.
The results from a thread lift are instant, however, some swelling may be present for up to a week. The results from your thread lift procedure will continue to improve over time as the production of collagen takes place. The length of time that the results last will vary depending on the type of threads used, but in most instances, results can last 18-24 months.
We have some of the most experienced doctors and nurses performing our thread lift treatments including Dr Charlotte Woodward and Dr Victoria Manning from River Aesthetics. Named as Best Clinic in the UK for Threads by Tatler Magazine in 2022 & 2023, the duo have over 30 years combined experience in providing the best thread lift results.
