Sculptra
Sculptra is a long-lasting injectable treatment that works with your skin to repair itself resulting in gradual and natural deep tissue regeneration.
As we age our bone, fat, and muscle all begin to decrease in volume which affects your face’s underlying support structure which results in the soft tissue of the face becoming slack. That in combination with the natural breakdown of collagen in the middle layer of skin means your skin will have visible lines, grooves and feel thinner, drier and less firm.
All of these symptoms are a sign of ageing and when you treat these elements you will achieve a naturally younger looking face. Sculptra as a treatment aims to treat all of the symptoms at once, in the same way they appeared – gradually, naturally and subtly.
It is important to remember that Sculptra is a gradual treatment so it is unlikely that you will notice a dramatic change after your first treatment. The injectable solution is made up of poly-L-lactic acid which is biocompatible, biodegradable FDA approved material that has been used by doctors for more than 30 years. Poly-L-lactic acid stimulates your body to produce new collagen.
The aim of sculptra is not to change your appearance or features but to make you look like yourself but with plumper, more youthful skin.
Sculptra can be used to treat;
- Upper Face – Temples
- Middle part of the face – Nasolabial folds,(deep lines between the nose and mouth), Tear Trough, and Cheek Augmentation
- Lower part of the face – Marionette lines, pre-jowls sulcus and the jaw line
The Problem
As we age, our skin loses elasticity and lines and wrinkles in the face become more pronounced. The skin can also lose volume and start to sag, which also makes us look older.
The Treatment
A Sculptra appointment will begin with your face being cleansed and your face will have been analysed to determine the areas in need of volume. A topical anaesthetic or numbing cream will then be applied to make the treatment more comfortable for you. Once the cream has taken effect your nurse or doctor will inject Sculptra into areas that need improvement using a fine needle.
After the injections your nurse and doctor may massage the areas treated which is something you will need to continue with for the next five days post-treatment.
The Results
The results from Sculptra are not immediate as the treatment works by targeting the underlying causes that develop the visible signs of ageing. The results you will see are gradual but visible signs of improvement can often be seen within the first few weeks of treatment.
One of the key advantages of Sculptra is that it lasts up to three times as long as other commonly used fillers.
FAQs
Sculptra is designed to replace collagen in the upper, middle and lower part of the face. This includes the deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), lines framing the mouth (marionette lines) and the cheek area.
Sculptra treatment can take up to 1 hour.
As Sculptra is an injectable treatment some pain is possible but topical anaesthetic cream is available to all patients before treatment to make the experience more comfortable.
Do I need a patch test before treatment?
Sculptra does not use any human or animal components so no allergy test is required prior to treatment.
The number of treatments required will depend on how much improvement you wish to receive. Usually 3-5 treatments are recommended with 6-8 weeks between each one. A full treatment plan will be discussed with your chosen nurse or doctor.
Sculptra is not a quick fix and is instead designed to give you noticeable differences gradually with full results lasting up to 2 years but it is recommended that you have a top up treatment at 18 months. Do not be concerned if you do not see instant results post treatment this is normal.
One vial is £425 and any additional vials are £400.
Free skin consultations for Sculptra are available with our specialist nurses and doctors at our clinics in Northampton and Buckinghamshire.
Once you have achieved your desired look then results can last up to 2 years.
It is recommended that you massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 days after your treatment. You can use a cold pack to reduce any swelling or bruising for the first 24 hours after treatment but do not apply ice directly to the skin. Avoid excessive sunlight or UV lamps until any swelling or redness have gone.
As long as there are no complications then make-up can be applied several hours after you have received treatment.
Sculptra is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body. In the rare case of any side effects post treatment you may experience pain of the injection site, bruising, redness, itching and lumps or bumps under the skin. Any side effects should clear up quickly but do not hesitate to speak to your doctor or nurse if you are concerned.
